3-Week Challenge feels great!
Hi Sherry I've just completed week one of the 3-Week Challenge and at the weigh-in tonight, I'd lost 1.5kgs. Back in 2005, I did the weightwatchers programme and I have just hunted out my old membership book because I was curious to see how much weight I'd lost each week on that programme. As you probably know, Weightwatchers has a points system. You can eat anything you like up to a given number of points. However, although things like vegetables have zero points, fruit also have very low points so you end up eating a lot of fruit. Fat on the other hand is heavily discouraged so I was eating very low fat products and no red meat, no butter, cheese etc. Well, I worked really hard on that diet, stuck to it to the letter, and did strenuous aerobic activity for 30-40 minutes plus weight training, four or five times a week. Most of the time it was really tough, my hunger went unsatisfied and I was craving for sweet food, bread and just more of everything I guess. My weight loss fluctuated quite a bit, but was generally between one and two pounds a week (I was living in the USA). The most I ever lost in one week was 2.4 lbs (1.08kgs). However, last night at the first weigh in for the 3-Week Challenge I'd lost 1.5kgs (3.3 lbs) and I'd spent the week eating as much cream, butter, cheese and fatty meat as I wanted. I also took only moderate exercise like a bike ride or walk for between 30 to 60 minutes, 5 times during the week, but never broke a sweat.
So that's a long way of saying what you are doing is really great, and thank you so much!
Best wishes Janette
Rebekah's wedding
Rebekah says 'I am now 24 and have struggled with my weight since I was 7 years old. I not only wanted to lose weight to look and feel better about myself, but I wanted to be healthier too. I wanted a more permanent solution then those meal replacement shakes. I knew if I kept eating the way I was I'd probably end up with diabetes, because I just LOVE sugar. I'm addicted to chocolate and bakery foods - I'd rather just have dessert and no mains - that's how bad it was.
It was about 3 months till my wedding and like all brides I wanted to look my best. I already had my dress, but to my horror I was putting on weight - even though I thought I was eating the "right" foods (most of the time) to lose weight. I was getting very distressed, because when I bought the dress I had planned on losing some weight so that it would be comfy. I went searching the internet for help and came across Sherry Elton's "Slim Shed". I read all the testimonials and thought ...wow! Sounds pretty good - I'll give it a go.
I did a telephone consultation with Sherry and started on the 3-week challenge immediately. I had brilliant results in those 3 weeks - averaging about 1.5kg reduction each week, and decided I'd continue (why wouldn't I!?). Then Christmas came along and we spent a week with my soon-to-be-in-laws, and I went back to eating bread and sugar and put most of the weight I'd lost back on. So at New Years I weighed 80kg.
The wedding was on the 8th Feb 2008. I got back on the programme as soon as we got home, and on the day of my wedding I weighed 73.9kg, and my dress fitted snugly - perfect!
It wasn't easy to resist all the temptations and the cravings. But by eating the right foods not only am I losing weight, I have heaps more energy, feel happier, have less mood swings and just feel really good about myself. The cravings get less and less all the time.
The important thing I've learnt is if you happen to have a bad moment and eat something you know isn't good for you, it's okay, don't give up on yourself - just get back to eating the right foods again. I do it because I feel so much better.'

Pat: This has been a great opportunity to learn about 'proper' food. I have weaned myself off one of my medication for Crohn's and now if I have bread I often feel the effect straight away. It is great to be able to eat well and still lose weight.
Beverley: A great introduction to eating traditional foods and the benefits of doing so.. the dangers of margarine, hydrogenated oils .. the benefits of having real whole milk (raw milk). The best! Most people haven't a clue about these things. They don't know what is happening to the foods and non foods that we eat, believing that the foods that are on the shelves in the supermarkets are good.
Tony & Pat: We found the challenge to be practical, logical and informative. Highly recommended.
Moira: The major benefits to me have been losing weight, improved self-esteem and learning that motivation and choice is more important than willpower. A good mix of demonstations, testimony and evidence without losing sight of each individual's right and need to make their own decisions and research about buying, preparing, cooking and enjoying food. Because my body deserves it.
Colleen: My blood sugar was 8.5 and is now 5. I also feel I have a lot more energy. Many thanks for your kindness and help.
Anonomous: Wow!! I went without bread for 3 weeks.
Lenise: The main benefits for me were not feeling hungry - I don't even crave sweet foods or carbs. I found Sherry very knowledgable. I couldn't believe I could lose weight eating 'good fat' foods until I saw it with my own eyes.
Heather: I used to always wake up hungry in the middle of the night. Now I am not hungry and have no desire for food at 2 am!
Ngaire: The sluggish feeling has gone. Thank you Sherry for this experience and showing the way for a healthier me.
Gail: Thank you Sherry for sharing your knowledge as I am now aware that the food I eat is how I feel. I am healing my body.
The Things People Say
It was a great 3 week program, although hard at first. But even if you are unable to stick to it fully, it is a good way to start looking at how you eat on a daily basis. The change of eating habits makes you feel refreshed and energised. I now enjoy getting up in the morning, knowing I can get through the day easily. Sarah, Invercargill
Can't believe that this is actually working. Have tried many ways to lose weight and feel better. The whole feeling of wellbeing is amazing. Jan, Invercargill
My whole family are learning how to eat correctly and enjoy food. Mandy, Otautau
I am much more aware of what I eat and what I am buying. I most enjoyed the concept of going round the 'outside aisles' of the supermarket. Liz, Invercargill
The course has made me think about food. You can live without processed food. Ivan, Invercargill
I am less irritable, less tired and less stressed! Diane, Invercargill
Cutting out bread was much easier that I thought it would be. I am loving the healthy way of eating. I won't be going back to my old ways. I jump out of bed much quicker now. Thank you so much Sherry. Barbara, Invercargill
This program is brilliant. It is so easy to follow and understand. All the things we subconsciously knew about eating unprocessed foods is reinforced and when you feel good and at ease with something it is easy to continue with it. If you want a happy healthy life you have to take the first step! Sara, Wyndham
Weighed in thismorning and am happy to tell you after one week I have lost 2 kg already... Hurrah. Needless to say I was a bit anxious about the outcome of all I was eating and what it was... but knew my waistband was a little looser. You explained everything so well and I found it very informative. Thank you. E, Gore
Sherry - thank you - I feel great. You have made such a difference to the way I now view food. I don't go to bed at nights now worrying about my weight and how much I'd over-eaten that day. I'm eating wonderfully well - and loosing weight. Debbie, Invercargill
You've been informative, friendly and encouraging. My sleeping patterns and moods are so much more improved. I am looking forward to continuing with this and reaping the benefits of a healthy body! (And mind!) Michelle, Invercargill
My husband's glucose level has gone from 17 to 6 in just one week. Robyn, Mosgiel.
I am a caregiver and I changed a difficult and angry client's diet at the same time as my own. Within a week his other carers were asking me what I had done, because he had changed completely. He was easy to manage and placid. Caregiver, Mosgiel
This course has made me aware of the foods I eat and maybe the harm it does. The friendly approach helps to make people relax and absorb more information. Not making demands on everybody but encouraging them to help themselves is good. The information you give is so wholly interesting that you want to come back and learn more. Audrey, Invercargill
I would recommend this program to anyone who wants to eat healthy and live a better life. It is interesting and informative and the benefits start straight away. Les, Invercargill

The main advantages for me have been learning to acknowledge the advantages of full cream milk, cream, yoghurt and cheese in our diet. Leigh-Ann, Otautau
I have found Sherry's talks informative and have come across articles that have confirmed some of the facts I have learnt in her course. I am relieved to have found someone that thinks the public need to know what is really in prescription drugs and how easily doctors will administer them. Andrea, Invercargill
It's great not thinking about/wanting food all the time - not feeling bloated. Christine, Otautau
I am now so aware of the pitfalls of modern food. Have so enjoyed it. Learned so much. Rozann, Invercargill
I was surprised to discover that I could survive without bread, ice cream and chocolate and feel satisfied and full. I will never eat diet yoghurt or diet lemonade again from what I have learnt. I am less tired and can keep working longer. I've also lost 2 kilos. Katrina, Underwood.
Sherry makes so much sense, good health needs good fats. My irritable bowel has gone. Liza, Invercargill
This program is here to save lives, shock people into realising how real food heals our body and to show that you can get thin eating cream! Dorothy, Otautau
I have really enjoyed learning from Sherry. Her knowledge backs up a lot of the common sense things we know, but seem to stray from. Great stuff! Some benefits I have found are better eating, weight loss, more energy, and a satisfaction of knowing we are doing the right thing for our family. My afternoon energy slump has disappeared. Nan, Invercargill
